Nationwide – Meet 9-year-old African-American prodigy David Balogun, a high school graduate from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He now wants to enroll in college where he wants to study astrophysics.
David has been completing courses online for nearly three years since he earned his high school diploma at charter school and started just before the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic hit.
David is interested in Science and Computers. He is interested in programming and has taken courses that focus on STEM subjects. He achieved an average grade above his 4.0. “I want to be an astrophysicist and study black holes and supernovae,” David told WaiMT.
David comes from a high-achieving family. His parents, Henry Balogun and Ronja Balogun, run a psychiatric outpatient clinic and hold advanced degrees. However, they admit that it is difficult to raise a young child with the extraordinary intellectual talents of David.
“He’s a nine-year-old with a brain that can grasp and understand many concepts beyond his age. And sometimes it’s beyond my understanding, ”said Ronya.
Bucks After taking several college courses at his county community college, David and his family are looking for a suitable college to continue their studies given their age. He said he is currently considering the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, and Harvard University.
Moreover, his parents don’t want him to rush his studies and want him to be able to carry on with life like any other 9-year-old boy. Besides his studies, David also enjoys playing sports, piano, martial arts and Lego.
